Desk/Workspace Sketch

Came across this interesting competition on Archdaily, to sketch your Desk/Workspace. So decided to submit a One-Hour sketch of one of our meeting rooms following a long conference call, after everyone left.

Let's hope this makes the cut.

CARchitecture: Porsche

I came across this wonderful Porsche Museum dedicated to exhibiting the history of the corporation. The exterior of the building did not appeal to me, but the interior, and particularly the details on the stairs were breathtaking. Credit have to be given to the photographer Michael Schnell, however, for capturing such elegant shots of the building.

The interior of the exhibition hall is designed to "convey a sense of arrival and approachability", guiding the visitors throughout the different spaces. It is located in Stuttgart, joining the Porsche plant and the Porsche Center at the historic birthplace of sports cars bearing the Porsche logo since the 1950s.

Old Crafts Revival

A "mashrabiya", "mauchrabeya", "moucharabieh" or however you want to spell it is not only a special characteristic of Arabic architecture, but a testament to the skill and brilliance of the Arab craftsmen in woodworking. On the other hand, weaving is a textile art that is considered an essential part of many cultures extending from Turkey to China, which is evident in the numerous forms and styles of oriental rugs. So it doesn't surprise me when those two magnificent crafts combine together to produce amazing artistic displays.

Arzu Firuz is a freelance designer born in Istanbul and working in France. Influenced by oriental artisanship, she brings us a blend of historical and traditional references with modern elements and materials. Examples of her products are the above Canvas Moucharabieh and Wooden Rugs, a modern interplay with materials and functions of different traditional elements.

Saddest Cubicle Context

I received this funny email of the Saddest Cubicle Contest, and did I feel bad for those who worked there. I mean everything that could go wrong in an office space is wrong... bad lighting, nasty ventilation, lousy decoration and the list goes on. Here are few winner cubicles:

Check out this poor guy's desk... hidden behind filing cabinets with no windows and proper lighting.

I just love it when I see people used overturned boxes as cabinets or even better as tables... I know few friends who have done that... very efficient and Eco-friendly though.

Another great example of recycling... I love the effect the Persian carpet has on the desk space... its sort of defines a territory.

Containers can be a source for great architecture if designed properly... however this is not an example of such architecture.
